Bangalore

Highlights:

* Meeting Satya and visiting downtown - We had never met Satya before, but finding him at the airport was easy, as he wore a red sweat shirt. We were just so thrilled that the temperature in Bangalore was less than 40 C, making exploring the city much more comfortable. After lunch, an auto rickshaw driver followed us for about ten minutes trying to get us to take his car, but we wanted to walk. A few streets later, when we were ready to take an auto rickshaw, no one wanted to take us to the park! We eventually realized that it was too close for them to charge more than 10 rupees (about a quarter) and getting business while exiting the park was more difficult.

* Presentation at Ittiam - Many Indians (particularly in the south) acknowledge their understanding or agreement by moving their head in a left to right motion, which can be mistaken as shaking head if one is not used to the custom. Watching the presentation in an Indian startup was interesting exactly for this reason. Whenever Jike made a point, some people nodded, and some others acknowledged with this left-to-right head motion. It took a while before we were comfortable enough to continue while watching this head motion.

* Shopping - With just two days away from Wini's wedding, this was really our last chance to be suited up in Indian gear. Satya took us to a few reliable stores and impressed us with his knowledge and taste in both men and women clothing. Cathy got her first sari, while Jike bought his first kurta paijama set.
